In my artistic practice, the concept of hyperreality is not merely a theoretical foundation, but also a lens through which I seek to understand the increasingly complex and illusion-laden nature of contemporary social reality. Today’s world moves at an extraordinary speed. Information, images, and narratives are produced and consumed within seconds. Amid the explosion of digital media, what we see, hear, and believe is often no longer a reflection of actual reality, but a construction that has been mediated, adjusted, and even engineered.
Jean Baudrillard, in his reflections on hyperreality, suggests that we now live in an era in which signs and simulations have overtaken reality itself. He wrote that simulacra are not imitations of the real, but have come to replace it. The world becomes like a fogged mirror. We feel as though we are seeing clearly, yet what appears before us is only a reflection of a reflection, layers of images without a stable foundation in reality. In such a condition, illusion can feel more convincing than truth, and sensation often carries more weight than authenticity.
Through my work, I attempt to explore and visualize these illusory layers. I believe that art holds the capacity not only to reflect the world, but also to dismantle it by raising questions about what is truly real amid the overwhelming flow of representations. In my practice, the artwork becomes a contemplative space that challenges perception. It invites viewers not merely to look, but to recognize that what they see may not be reality itself, but an artificial construct shaped by popular culture, technology, and dominant narratives of power.
Grounded in this conceptual framework, my choice of materials, techniques, and visual approaches is shaped contextually by the issues and narratives I seek to convey. Each visual element is not present merely as an aesthetic form, but carries symbolic weight and meaning connected to simulation and to a sense of disconnection from reality. For instance, the use of synthetic materials or the transformation of everyday objects into altered visual forms becomes a way to emphasize how our world is increasingly filled with artificial artifacts that imitate reality while at the same time obscuring it. Through this approach, I aim to create a visual experience that encourages the audience to question authenticity, truth, and the very nature of what they perceive as real.

@ning.artspace Ning Art Space proudly introduces Ridho Scoot as one of the participants in our first exhibition, entitled "Bancak" which will be opened on July 4th 2024. Ridho Scoot is very interested in processing materials into objects that can represent his ideas. For him, this process sometimes doesn't like his expectations but can be something "more". Currently he is playing with balloon material which symbolize human pressure to everything and forms a new adaptation process. #ningartspace #yogyaartweek #yogyakartaartist #seni #senijogja #senimanjogja #artistsoftiktok #ridhoscoot ♬ original sound - Ning Art Space
